1. Observation - Learn to see page 1 of 2
We all look but do we see? Observation is about seeing the things that are all
around us. When we take photographs we tend to see only what is directly in
front of us and not what may be surrounding or behind our subject.
Take a look at the Fig. A that Calvin took of me. Do you notice anything wrong
or strange in the picture?
Hopefully you will have noticed that I appear to have something
growing out of the top of my head! Now take a look at Fig. B. This is the same
picture but this time Calvin noticed the object behind me. By asking me to take
a few steps to the side you can now see it's was a plant! Now we have a nice
picture of me in the room, a big improvement don't you think?
Of course sometimes your subject might not be able to move and we have to think of something else!
