2. Perspective - Scale and size page 1 of 2
You may not have heared of Perspective before but it is all around us. It is
one thing that can change the effect or feel of a photograph. Perspective can
show the size, scale, position and distance of one object to an other and can
be used to help to focus your viewers attention on a specific thing.
Have a look at Fig. A. In this picture you can see that Calvin and Connie are
stood side by side and look similar in size. Notice that it also looks quite flat
and isn't very exciting. It isn't wrong to take a picture like this if that is what
you wanted to take.
Now take a look at Fig. B. This time Connie is in front (or in the foreground) and
Calvin is behind her (or in the background), standing further away. See how
now there is a feeling of depth in the picture. The pathway now appears to get
smaller as it goes into the distance and Connie now looks much bigger
than Calvin drawing your eyes to her first. This is just a different Perspective!
